Bizarre scenes as tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas rages over fan’s strange noise: ‘She needs to go’

Bizarre scenes as tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas rages over fan’s strange noise: ‘She needs to go’

Chaos has erupted at the Cincinnati Masters when world No.4 Stefanos Tsitsipas confronted a fan for ‘imitating a bee’ during his match against American Ben Shelton.

Tsitsipas was left furious and approached the fan about the bee noises, and he pleaded with the umpire to remove the fan from the stadium.

The drama started in the second set when the Greek tennis star was about to serve. He then stopped and started waving his racquet around and swatted around his face.

Tsitsipas was under the impression that a bee was flying around him, however, he soon realised that a fan in the stands behind him was making a buzzing, bee-like sounding noise.

Unable to concentrate on his serve, Tsitsipas approached the umpire, who asked him, “What’s wrong?”

Tsitsipas replied: “There’s a person imitating a bee behind me”.

The umpire seemed surprised by Tsitsipas complaint as he responded: “Oh yeah”.

The umpire continued and said he would “take care of it”.

“It’s a buzz right before I serve,” Tsitsipas explained to the umpire.

Tsitsipas then began to walk back and continue playing when he stopped and asked the umpire: “Do you think that’s OK?”

The bizarre interaction left the commentators stunned.

“Intimidating a bee, that is a new one,” one commentator said.

“That’s a surprising one that one,” another commentator added as the pair started laughing.

Tsitsipas then approached the fans in the stands behind him and spoke to them about the noise.

A male fan told Tsitsipas that a lady in the front row was making the noises as he pointed out the person to the tennis star.

Tsitsipas then approached the umpire again, as the umpire asked “do you know who it is?”

Shaking his head in disbelief, Tsitsipas told the umpire that “this has never happened in my career”.

“I know they’re supporting the (other player),” Tsitsipas continued.

Oblivious to what was occurring, Shelton asked Tsitsipas: “What’s happened? Are they speaking to you?”

“No, they’re imitating a bee, they’re buzzing,” Tsitsipas replied.

The umpire asked Tsitsipas: “Do you know who (it) is exactly?”

Tsitsipas told the umpire it was a “lady over there,” as he made a demand to remove her from the stadium.

“I want her out. She needs to go … I’m about to serve and all I hear …,” Tsitsipas told the umpire.

The umpire replied and said he will “ask her to stop” and told Tsitsipas to speak to him again if the noise continues.

Moments later, as the 25-year-old went back on court to continue the match, he engaged in a conversation with the lady in the crowd who appeared to be apologising to Tsitsipas.

In the end, the drama did not seem to have much of an effect on Tsitsipas as he defeated Shelton 7-6 (3), 7-6 (2), however, he lost the next match to Hubert Hurkacz as he exited the tournament in the round of 16.
